CHAMPERS:  NEW LOCATION - Already one of the leading restaurants on the South Coast, with a solid reputation for consistently good food and value for money, Champers has now made further progress by relocating and upgrading all its facilities. The new Champers is nestled in a quiet lane just off the main South Coast road, in an attractive, traditional Barbadian building, with a beautiful cliff-top setting that overlooks Accra Beach and a super panoramic view over the ocean.  They have added a gorgeous Cliffside seating area all around the restaurant.  On our recent visit, we did not feel the food was as good as we previously experienced.  There were 6 of us, so we tried lots of things.  There is a large parking area now available.  Read more under restaurants.

JUST GRILLIN WEST:  Newly opened West Coast location (at the site of the form Pizzazz - near Chattel House Shops).  The same fantastic grilled food that is still being served at the South Coast location now can be enjoyed on the West Coast.  Family friendly.  Reasonably priced - .  Great simple grilled burgers, fish & chicken and grilled vegetables.  For $20 US 2 people can eat with a drink each.  If the owner, Francis Gonsalves, is there, tell him we highly recommended.  Currently opened for dinner.

SCARLET'S:  Great new London bistro: ZAGAT 2009 Award Winner.  The two year old trendy bar and restaurant isn't on the beach; in fact, there's not a palm tree in sight. Low key lounging and contemporary dining and in an upmarket setting - this is Scarlet, the latest night-spot in Barbados.

Up tempo and trendy in a room full of simmering energy, painted bright scarlet inside and out, with Jackie O and Marilyn Monroe portraits adorning the walls, this London style bistro-bar is a refreshing alternative to Barbados nightlife. The large bar can accommodate a simple meal of a few nibbles and martinis, or choose from the a la carte menu featuring a mix of modern comfort food and Bajan dishes with a twist.  Scarlet’s is open late and caters to the after midnight crowd, offering a hip, cool night spot with excellent food minus the high-end prices.

Located in Paynes Bay, opposite Daphne's, the entrance is located on the parking lot side.  Closed on Monday.

Coach House Restaurant after 32 years at its landmark location at Sandy Lane in St James has closed and has gone seaside.

It is now called Beach House and the new location is in the building that once housed the Baku nightclub in Holetown, I’m told they just reopened.  Their former site will make way for multimillion dollar condominiums going up in that area.

CUTERS BAJAN DELI

CUTTERS BAJAN DELI is a fabulous place owned and operated by Roger Goddard, a Barbadian who lived in San Francisco for many years.  Painted bright yellow and right on the main road (so you can't miss it!) Cutters is a unique blend of service and food quality, combined with the Bajan experience.  Described as a deli and general store, Over the last two years Cutters has continually changed their offerings based on customer preferences .  You can take your selection away with you, or sit on the verandah outside and enjoy delicious sandwiches, pizza, fresh coffee and smoothies, plus an ever-changing specials menu.  Open for breakfast and lunch daily, except Tuesday.  This is located really near The Crane.

SASSAFRAS:  This restaurant closed it’s West Coast location near The Cliff.  They have moved to their new location at Sugar Hill.

BROWN SUGAR RESTAURANT (Aquatic Gap) - This restaurant has reopened now and has a lush and spacious eating area for 108 patrons.  Check out their great Bajan food.

PISCES Restaurant, St. Lawrence Gap:  Although this restaurant was taken over by Chef Larry Rogers and his wife Michelle (formerly of La Terra fame) I had expected great things.  Larry Rogers is now more involved in the restaurant.  Many of his former kitchen staff from La Terra are there.  We did not try it on this trip, but in October 2005, the menu was not very creative and nothing we tried was anything special.  Not so sure I would go back.

THE BEACH HOUSE:  (former Coach House)  In its new, breathtaking beachfront site at the center of things in Holetown with cheerful staff and great food.  The daytime beach menu appeals to hungry as well as healthy eaters and there is an excellent Caribbean lunch buffet featuring real West Indian dishes.  The Evening Menu blends local flavors with a Mediterranean culinary flair and the romantic candlelit atmosphere ensures a truly memorable experience.  Great for sundowners.  Live Jazz on Fridays.
